COILED TUBING SERIES
Although the use of coiled tubing (CT) in drilling applications is not new, drilling new wells from surface had not been proven, until recently.
The first attempts to drill new wells with coiled tubing occurred near Medicine Hat, Alberta in 1994. Since then, Foremost continues to lead the industry in the development of new CT technologies to overcome the challenges associated with existing equipment. In 1997, Foremost engineered and manufactured the industries first Hybrid Coiled Tubing Drill Rig – a single rig with the unique ability to drill new wells from surface using either conventional top drive technology in conjunction with jointed pipe, or continuous coiled tubing in combination with existing injector systems.
highlights
Average penetration rates of 820 ft (250 m) per hour are common place.
Drill and case new wells under 1,000 m in less than a single day.
Depths of greater than 8,100 ft (2,500 m) with 3½” (89 mm) diameter coiled tubing have been achieved.
From 2000 – 2008, more than 40,000 new wells have been drilled with Hybrid CTR’s.
Foremost Hybrid Coiled Tubing Rigs are custom engineered and manufactured to meet specific customer requirements. Several configurations are available with injector capacities up to 200,000 lbs (90 Tonne), top drive hook load capacities up to 300,000 lbs (136 Tonne), and 3½” diameter coil capacities of up to 9,00 ft (3,000 m).
